Choose ACP for a large, weather-proof shop front. Choose acrylic for a smaller board that should look sharp and glossy up close. Many of the best Delhi shop fronts use both: an ACP panel as the base, with lit acrylic letters on top.
Here is how the two compare, so you can pick the right one for your budget and location.

What is ACP?
ACP (aluminium composite panel) is a flat sheet made of two thin aluminium layers with a plastic core. It is light, rigid and does not rust. Sign makers use it to clad a whole shop front, then fix letters or a logo on it.
What is acrylic?
Acrylic is a clear or coloured plastic sheet with a glass-like shine. It can be cut into any shape, printed on, or made into 3D letters. Light passes through it evenly, which is why it is used for lit letters and glow sign boards.
ACP vs acrylic at a glance
| ACP sign board | Acrylic sign board | |
|---|---|---|
| Look | Flat, clean, modern finish | Glossy, premium, glass-like |
| Lighting | Not lit itself; letters on it can be lit | Glows evenly when lit from behind |
| Strength outdoors | Very strong; handles sun, rain and dust | Good, but can scratch or yellow if low-grade |
| Best size | Large fronts and full fascia | Small to medium boards and letters |
| Price per sq ft | ₹450 – ₹700 (panel and frame) | ₹650 – ₹900 (lit acrylic board) |
| Upkeep | Wipe clean; colour holds well | Clean with a soft cloth; avoid harsh chemicals |

When ACP is the better choice
- Your shop front is wide, for example 15 ft or more.
- The board faces strong sun or rain, as on most Delhi main roads.
- You want the whole front to look uniform, in your brand colour.
- You want low upkeep over many years.

When acrylic is the better choice
- The board is small and seen up close, such as a clinic, salon or office reception.
- You want a glossy, premium look at night.
- You need cut-out 3D letters or a logo that glows.

The best of both: ACP with acrylic letters
For most shops we recommend an ACP base with 3D acrylic letters lit by LEDs. The ACP gives a strong, clean front. The acrylic letters give a bright name that stands out after dark. It costs more than either alone, but it is the look most premium brands use.

Questions to ask your sign maker
- What thickness is the ACP sheet, and which brand?
- Is the acrylic cast or extruded? Cast acrylic is clearer and lasts longer.
- Which LED brand is used inside the letters?
- What warranty do you give on the panel, letters and lights?
Frequently asked questions
Is ACP waterproof?
Yes. ACP does not absorb water or rust, which makes it a good choice for outdoor shop fronts.
Does acrylic turn yellow?
Low-grade acrylic can yellow in strong sun over a few years. Good-quality UV-stable acrylic holds its colour much longer.
Which is cheaper, ACP or acrylic?
Per sq ft they are close. ACP often works out cheaper for large fronts, while acrylic costs less for small boards.
